As a grandfather to fifteen, I have read many books about colours to toddlers and young children. I found them uninspired. There is so much natural form and colour in this world: cartoon drawings just can not compete. I asked myself, "What in the world has enough primary colours to teach little ones?" Then, I discovered "Histoire Naturelle des Perroquets" by Franois Levaillant. The images, created under the direction of Bouquet, Professor of Drawing, Prytane of Paris in the early 1800's, were astounding. I had found the perfect medium for teaching colour names to children everywhere.
